My name is Manu Afshar and I am a student in the University of the Virgin Islands’ Master’s of Marine
and Environmental Science program. In 2016 I worked for the National Park Service on Buck Islands as
an intern in the Buck Island Sea Turtle Research Program. After finishing my internship in St Croix I
started my master’s thesis on St. Thomas at UVI. I am currently working with the National Park Service
on St. Croix conducting research on the success of hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) nests in
different habitats on Buck Island Reef National Monument, as part of my master’s thesis. I hope that the
finding s of this research will contribute to the management strategies employed on Buck Island to
maximize the success of the endangered hawksbill sea turtles.
